Wild Things

 

We went to a really fun opening for Stacy Rozich's show at Flatcolor Gallery yesterday.

All her colorful and intricate water-colored prints are filled with humorous and rich narratives of the strangest-looking folklore creatures doing random things and acting like ironic hipsters....standing around nonchalantly... smoking, drinking Rainer, playing music, cards, or causing some sort of mischief. 

 

 

They look wild and crazy and each seems to have their own personality.... and all the while incredibly endearing at the same time. 

I couldn't help but to create mini conversations (with different voices and all) in my head as I looked at every print.......

Rabbit guy: "Heeeey...so I'm a little worried....I think fluffy is not feeling very well...."
Pipe guy: (playing music) "hum-dee-doo...la-did-da....HUH? what?... you said something?"
Rabbit guy: "oh...nothing, I mean....I was just trying to say that fluffy looks a little malnourished...it looks like she's loosing a lot of weight...."
Pipe guy: (inhale pipe and puff out smoke) "uh...hmmm...its probably the dogs stealing her food or whatever"
Rabbit guy: "ohmygawd...really??  you think they'd do that?!"
Pipe guy: "uh, yeah. they're dogs....they'd eat anything."  (resume to playing his music)
Dogs: "grrrr...."

 

Tree guy: "gawd....why da hell did you make me steal this tree from your neighbor's yard?"

Gun guy: "cuz she always up in my biznezz and wouldn't shut up about everything I do"

Tree guy: "uh..so you steal her tree?...what's the point exactly?"

Gun guy: "I don't know...just so she'll learn to not F with...wait a minute....I didn't kidnap you so you can ask me all these damn questions!" (spit)

Tree guy: "all right...fine."

Bug: (in little voice) "heeey!! get back here! You guys have no rights to move the tree, I was living under there! It says here on my lease that I have every right to sue you guys! I'm a bug lawyer and I can get you guys thrown in jail!!...uh....guys..did you hear what i say!!"
Birds: "KAAAAH!"

 

Big guy: "WOOOO!!!!   NO HANDS MOTHERF*#%ER!!" 

Little green guys: (with tiny high voices from left to right) 

"heeeeeell yeeeeah...rager paarrrtaaaay!!"

"ah maaaan...think i'm out of beer..."

"zzzzz...snore"

"damn it! give me back my cigarette!! stop hogging it!!"

"what, you mean this? what? you want it or something?? I thought you said you're quitting?...you really shouldn't smoke, you know...especially if you want kids and all"

"damn it, shut up, and just give me the damn cigarette!"

Yeeeah....got a little carried a way....maybe I'm crazier than all those creatures combined...anyways...moving on....

MUST SEE this amazing stop-motion illustrated by her for Fleet Fox that totally made my heart stop... I even teared up a bit at the end. It's insanely beautiful and magical.... it's almost like the song and the animation were made for each other.

I seriously feel like people in Japan simply has it in their blood where they just know how to make everything irresistibly & ridiculously cute!!

Print Magazine Shall Not Die

This is another exciting project by Meg Mateo Ilasco. Meg & Anh-Minh Le recently launched their quarterly print magazine, Anthology Magazine . It's just loveliness all around! They're only doing a small run of them now, and the last I've heard, they're about to sell out!!

I'm so glad to see actual print magazines coming out versus more web magazines. There's just nothing that compares to actually having the magazines in the hands to flip through the pages.
They even went all out and created this lovely stop motion video making a statement that print is not dead!! I love the cardboard typewriter, which Meg made herself!


I really don't know how she manages to do all this and come out with 2 books (Crafting a Meaningful Home & Creative Inc.) at the same time!!
Gawwwd....can anyone be any more productive??

If Prince and Pee-Wee had a kid...

Found this (via Kitsch Cafe) and saw this great video by Sliimy!..(yes...yet another stop-motion!!) I just love his hybrid Prince & Pee-Wee pop, retro, colorful style. The video, the song and him... just adorable.
Sliimy also did the cover of Womenizer...and I love his version way more!

Oh NO! Run, Piggy, Run!

OH dear...yet another stop-motion video. Every time I find a stop-motion video, I say they're the best one....but this one is SOOO good!! Saw it on Jamie's blog, Design Mate, and HAD to post it to share with y'all!!

Mural Mural On the Wall...

Another awesome video! This one is a video documenting 1 week long of mural painting by Japanese artist group called, Rinpa Eshidan.(rin-pa eeh-she-dan) "Rinpa" is a word meaning "to bring people together, while "Eshidan" essentially means "art crew."

Everything they create are ephemeral. They're either painted over or taken apart, and ultimately seeing the whole documentation of the process is the art in itself. Really stunning work.

I like this video below as well and it's shot from a bird's eye view. It's a mix of 2D and 3D with mix media. Watching it makes me wanna splash some paint, smear some clay, throw things around and get totally messy.
I just wouldn't want to clean it up....

Muto Awesome Animation!

This is a super amazing graffiti animation, Titled 'Muto' by Blu. The 6 and half minute long animation moves from one wall to another, to the side walk, and into a room! I like seeing traces of the previous painted images...
The sound effects are great, too!

It's Bed Time

Saw this via Design*Sponge couple days ago. It's another magical and adorable stop-motion music video by Oren Lavi . I just had to add this to the list of stop-motion videos along with my other favs: by Labour, Hine, and the magical Origami commercial, The whole stop-motion technique is simply charming. It's as if they are bring a whole new world of magic into the reality.
It's just incredibly sweet...the sunny room, the clean sheet, the fluffy pillows, the little white socks....Le sigh...
